  • Simply walk into an NIC Bank Branch and apply for the Prepaid card that you need.

How to load your NIC Prepaid card:

  • Through the NIC NOW mobile banking app
  • Through M-Pesa Paybill Number 445992 in KES currency.

You will be issued with your card instantly after you purchase it at your nearest branch.

No, the card is available to both NIC customers and non-NIC bank customers.

  1. What do I require to apply for a Pre-Paid card?

The customer will be required to fill in an application form and have an identification card or valid passport and current work permit in the case of a foreigner.

For an existing customer of NIC bank, they will provide identification documents and fill in the application form.

  1. Are there any charges when applying for the card?

To activate the card, you will be charged an activation fee of KES 485.

  1. How long will it take to get the Pre-Paid card after application?

The card is issued instantly after application.

  1. Can a foreigner get a prepaid card?

Yes, you must have a valid passport and a current work permit.

  1. Will my card still function if I travel out of the country?

Yes. The card is Visa-branded and can be used in more than 200 countries worldwide.

  1. What is the expiry period of the card?

3 years.

  1. What do I do when my card expires?

You will have to purchase another card from any NIC Bank branch countrywide.

  1. How much will it cost to replace a lost card?

KES 500

  1. How much will it cost to get a new card upon expiry?

KES 485

  1. What happens to the balance in my card if it expires or gets lost?

Upon issuance of a new card, the balance is automatically transferred to the new card.

  1. How do I manage my Card?

The card has an online portal on our website, www. nic-bank.com then click on NIC prepaid card.

  1. What functions is the customer able to perform through the online portal?
  • View card details
  • View card statement
  • View personal details
  • Activate and deactivate card
  1. Can I request for a new PIN incase I forget my PIN?

There will be no PIN replacement. Cardholders that forget their PIN must purchase a new card and the balance will be transferred to the new card.

  1. Can my card PIN be reset?

Yes, you can be reset if you still remember your current PIN.

  1. What do I do if I have misplaced my card?

You can deactivate the card temporarily via the online prepaid customer portal or call the bank customer contact centre through these numbers, 0711 041 111; 0732 141 111; 020 2888 217.

  1. What do I do if I find my card?

Visit the online prepaid customer portal to activate your card or call the bank customer contact centre through these numbers, 0711 041 111; 0732 141 111; 020 2888 217.

  1. What do if my card is lost or stolen?

Call the bank customer contact centre through these numbers, 0711 041 111; 0732 141 111; 020 2888 217 to block the card.

  1. Can I unblock a cancelled card?

No

Card Loading & Transactions

  1. What do I need to load my card at all channels?

You will need the full card number on the front of the card.

  1. How soon do I get to use my money after loading?

Within 5-10 minutes

  1. Is there a minimum first time loading amount?

No

  1. What is the maximum amount I can load the card on a daily basis?

Maximum amount is Kes 500,000 per day

  1. Can I load the card in another currency apart from KES?

Yes, you can load Euros and Dollars directly to the wallets.

  1. How will the transactions in Euros and Dollars be done?

The transaction will be allowed on the specific currency.

  1. What will happen if the foreign currency balance is not sufficient to cover the full transaction amount?

The transaction will be paid through the KES wallet if the funds are sufficient.

  1. Can I use my card for transactions with other currencies apart from USD, Euro and KES?

Yes, but the currencies will have to be converted to KES.

  1. How do I use the web portal?

The web portal provides customers with an easy way for cardholders to view their transactions. The interface provides a quick way to register oneself via internet access. The Customer Web Portal gives the following functionality:
