The Bank upped sponsorship to 8 students in the year with a donation totalling Kshs. 400,000/- for the year.

According to the Palmhouse Board of Trustees Chairman, 2010 was an exceptionally good year for the foundation on all fronts. “We selected 56 students in 2010 at an estimated financing cost of KShs.11.2 million compared to 43 students in 2009.

The endowment fund crossed the Khs.15 million mark and I have no doubt we will make the KShs.100 million target we set by 2017 and help even more students “Realize their dreams… and transform their lives.”"

b) Edumed Trust:

This is a Kenyan Christian charitable trust which supports education and medical needs of bright students from needy families. The Bank sponsored 10 students by donating Kshs.300,000/-.

c) Starehe Future Fund:

The Bank has been a long term partner of Starehe and last year, we continued the sponsorship by topping up on the endowment fund to Kshs 1,000,000.

d) Zawadi Africa Education Fund:

The Bank extended support to bright girls from a needy background to pursue higher education in reputable universities through the Zawadi Africa Fund by way of a donation of Kshs. 400,000/-. The Zawadi Education Fund was founded by Ms Susan Mboya.

e) Junior Achievement:

Junior Achievement Kenya is a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, one of the world’s largest and fastest growing not-for-profit organizations committed to inspiring and preparing young people to succeed in a global economy.

Their programs are based on the three pillars:

  • Entrepreneurship
  • Work readiness
  • Financial literacy

The Bank donated Kshs.300,000/- towards their programs and also participated in the Job Shadow program which gave high schools students a chance to experience ‘a day in the life’ of an NIC Banker.

NIC Bank Group partnered with Junior Achievement Kenya in inspiring young Kenyans both in and out of school to realize their entrepreneurship potential and gain skills for the work place.
